What is WESVAARRDEC?
Western Visayas Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVARRDEC) is an organization of 29 consortium member and partner member agencies that seeks to pool technical expertise and other resources related to research and development activities in Western Visayas. It is one of the 13 consortia under the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD). On September 2015, the consortium was officially renamed to Western Visayas Agriculture Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVAARRDEC) with the inclusion of aquatic sector.
Begun on May 4, 1988, WESVAARRDEC aims to establish a unified regional research and development management group that plans, integrates, reviews and coordinates research programs of the various member institutions and agencies. Led by its base agency, West Visayas StateUniversity, it sets to maximize the management of resources to advance research and development (R&D) program relevant to regional and national goals.

- Development and maintenance of R&D information systems
- Packaging of science-based information materials
- Technology packaging and dissemination and techno transfer program
- Intellectual property management and other technical assistance on technology transfer
- Ugrading the competencies of researchers and researcher managers in priority fields
- R&D equipment and infrastructure development program
- Rationalization of investments, managementsystems and generalization of support
- Enhancement of program planning, monitoring and evaluation systems
- Strengthening and maintenance of local and international linkages
- Strategic assessment, impact assessment of policies, industry/technology forecasting
- Communication research and strategies as support to policy awareness and advocacy initiatives
